or/and

often we think in ‘or’
a choice between two or more
when we could call it ‘and’
and give ourselves the freedom to be all
to enjoy all
to have all

we dichotomize, split,
we say “him or her”
we say “me or him”
we say there’s a choice that must be made

but ‘and’ is an open set of arms
it invites, and accepts
it understands
‘or’ seeks to partition the world
our lives, our bonds
‘and’ says, let’s connect
let’s be whole
